What are Product Variations?
Product Variations link related products usually the same model in different colours, capacities or configurations, into one connected group. Shoppers select the exact combination they want from drop-down menus right on the product screen, with no separate searches and no duplicate listings cluttering your catalogue.
Why it matters
A cleaner catalogue, an easier buy
Three reasons retailers turn scattered listings into linked variation groups.
One page, all options
Every colour and capacity of a model lives on a single product page, so customers compare and choose without leaving it.
Select, don't search
Newly created drop-downs let shoppers pick the exact variant — say Red, 256GB — and jump straight to the right part number.
Combine attributes
Stack multiple attributes like colour and storage to cover every real combination in your range from one tidy group.
How it works
Build a variation group in four steps
Create the group
Use the Create option and give the variation a clear name that identifies what it covers, such as the model range.
Add attributes
Define at least one attribute name — for example Colour — then add a second like Storage Capacity if you need it.
Add the values
Under each attribute, use Add Value to list the options: Red, Green, Blue, Yellow — and 128GB, 256GB, 512GB.
Link the products
Select each value combination, like Red 128GB, and link it to that specific part number. Repeat until every combination has a product.
Combining attributes and values
You're not limited to one attribute. Set up as many combinations as your range needs — a handset in four colours and three storage tiers becomes twelve linked variants, all reachable from one product page.
Good to know
Product Variations, answered
Can a product belong to more than one variation group?
No. A product can only be part of one Product Variation. If it's connected to several, only the first one is used — so keep each product in a single, correct group.
Do I need to link every combination?
To go fully live, yes — each value combination should have a product associated with it. Once every combination is linked, the drop-down options appear on the shop front and customers can select any valid variant.
What does the customer actually see?
On the product page they get newly created drop-downs for each attribute. In our example they choose a colour and a storage capacity, and the store loads the exact part number for that combination.
How many attributes can I add?
You can set up multiple attributes and as many values as your range requires — for instance colour and storage capacity together — and Nettailer generates every valid combination for you to link.
